This month’s blog comes thanks to Business Coach Jo James of Amber Life.

Her first newsletter of 2026 landed in my inbox a few days ago and her tips for defining success on your terms in 2026 are excellent. Since I couldn’t improve on them, I have lifted them wholesale 👍🏻😊

How will you define success in 2026?

1. What does success really mean to you? Not what you “should” want, or what others think you ‘ought to do’, but what really matters in your life and business right now? Take a moment and write it down.

2. What goals and ideas do you have for 2026? Write them ALL down on paper or a note. As you look at your list of goals and ideas, notice what jumps out at you. Notice how you feel when you read your goals.

3. Which goals or idea seems to have more energy around it, and why? Is it because…you know you can achieve it quickly and build momentum? Or it’s become a necessity rather than a “nice to have”? Or is it because you love learning, growing, and trying something new? Now go a little deeper and ask yourself:

4. Why is this goal important to me? Because it will give you MORE income, opportunities, and freedom? Because it will REDUCE stress or CREATE stability? Because it will ALLOW you to show up more fully for your clients, your family, or yourself? Because NOT doing it isn’t an option? See if you can identify WHY these goals are so important to you. After all it takes time and effort to achieve your goals. So working WITH your ‘why’, is a great motivator! If you have tried one or two of your goals before, and you still really WANT to make them happen, gently ask yourself…

5. What has stopped me from doing this before? Time? Confidence? Clarity? Bored of trying to do it all on your own? What, specifically, was getting in your way?

6. What will you do differently this year to overcome those challenges? Sometimes all it takes is clearer focus, a structured plan, and someone in your corner to help you stay on track.
